Documentary style

You gotta love art school! The challenge of the art world vs. the commercial world. I find I have to keep re-adjusting my expression.

As part of my Masters of Art at COFA I have been working on a series of digital images with a narrative addressing contemporary life, telling a story through a single image.

I wanted to create a body of work that spoke to the internal dialogues we all have.  As part of our humanity we all go somewhere internally that we only selectively show to the world. This is often in contrast to the persona we show and the ubiquitous images we send out to the world as captured by photographs of ourselves.

Photography has a long history of ‘depicting the truth’ and if not, being used to frame or lead the viewer to a desired interpretation. In more recent times digital imaging has furthered this ability of photography to craft it’s own ‘truth’ or subvert the real.
